I've updated my profile with the news that I'm heading back to Dawhenya to help my friend Tony start a library for the school (and, hopefully, for the community as well).
I've been "living " in Ghana for about a month, by keeping in touch with some fabulous blogs by people living and working in the country.
It's made me feel "at home" and has brought back many memories of how I saw life there 2 years ago.
I will try and blog away whilst we look into how we go about getting things done....Ghana style.
I'm not going to pretend that it doesn't take a deep breath and a running jump to get up the courage to !. go back and 2. be useful when I get there! I'm a little older and slower now....bah! No problems....we can do it.
Oh.....and did I mention to everone I know that Obama will be there too???

- I came first to Ghana in 2007 where I taught school (badly I fear) for a while, saw and sought to understand a little of Ghana and her people and culture and made some good and firm friends. I'm returning for a while to help one of those friends start a library at a village school. Seems to make sense, really... there is no use teaching kids to read if there is little to read in the first place. This may be a big job, it may be fun, it may not work at all......but we'll give it a red hot go and have some good times whilst we try.

Hi Penny! I just stumbled upon your blog. I volunteer taught in Dawhenya in 2005. What a small world! Do you have any pictures online? I'd love to see them! It's so nice to read your blog and relive my experiences. I would give anything to travel back to Dawhenya and see everyone again.
